Ford and Nuance Communications are jointly upgrading the next SYNC speech engine by integrating innovative technology MyFord Touch. The upgrade would allow more voice control and would simplify the commands to the extent that most function would be accessed quite easily. Unlike the first generation of SYNC, this new upgrade would recognize over 10,000 first-level commands and would help simplify the overall command structure.

The system also recognizes any keyword used by the users who are looking for a specific song or genre. The “one-shot” navigation destination entry of Nuance allows the SYNC users to say more than one line of the address in a single command. Ford also suggested that it is also safe for customers to use voice activated system as there is a significant amount of risk if you use hand held devices. In a market research carried on by Ford, it was found that over 60% of the SYNC users prefer voice control while driving.

The enhancement made to the speech capability is definitely going to change the way people use portable music players and digital media in their cars. The new technology would reduce the dangers caused by various visual and manual distractions and would provide the users with a thrilling experience of using their voice. The popularity of the SYNC would further increase as Nuance has the capability to support commands in various languages and it is expected to arrive in Europe on the 2012 Ford Focus.
